Ricardo Salgado chegou pela porta da frente e foi embora pela garagem. Pelo meio foi identificado em tribunal, dentro do qual esteve sete minutos: conseguiu dizer o nome mas não soube dizer quando nasceu nem onde vive. Nem sabe que está a ser julgado – acabou mandado para casa (“pode ir a andar, não precisa de ir a correr”). E tudo isto aconteceu num dia em que um lesado do BES que confrontou Amílcar Pires deixou uma mensagem de apoio ao próprio Salgado. Dez anos depois da queda do BES, o julgamento começou esta terça-feira
Ricardo Salgado esteve pouco mais de uma hora no Campus de Justiça, em Lisboa, no dia em que se iniciou o julgamento da derrocada do BES. Chegou às 9:35: apoiado pelo motorista, ao mesmo tempo que caminhava pé ante pé com os braços apoiados no advogado, Francisco Proença de Carvalho, e na mulher, Maria João, fez o caminho até entrar no edifício. Muito devagar, demorou cerca de cinco minutos a chegar ao interior do Tribunal Judicial da Comarca de Lisboa.
A tensão estava em crescendo quando o ex-banqueiro saiu do carro. Antes, Amílcar Morais Pires, tido como o braço direito de Salgado, foi recebido por uma enchente de lesados que o esperaram à porta. Chamaram-no “gatuno” e “ladrão” e foi mesmo necessária a intervenção da PSP para que o arguido, um dos primeiros a chegar, conseguisse entrar no tribunal com o seu advogado.
Foi nesse clima que Salgado começou a sua caminhada até à fachada do edifício. Sem gravata, de camisola azul e com um olho a revelar um hematoma, não disse nenhuma palavra e manteve o olhar sempre distante até se aproximar das grades. Nesse momento, um dos lesados furou a fila de jornalistas para o confrontar.
Mas aquilo que se antecipava ser um ataque barulhento contra a principal figura do processo BES acabou até por se revelar uma manifestação de apoio. Amparado pelos seus dois advogados, Ricardo Salgado quedou-se imóvel ao mesmo tempo que Jorge Novo, 68 anos, lesado do papel comercial do BES, queixou-se de ter ficado sem nada. “Sabemos que o senhor deixou uma provisão para os lesados, mas ficámos sem nada. Essa provisão era para nos ser paga, mas o Novo Banco nada fez. A nossa luta não é consigo”, “desejamos-lhe sucesso”.
Mas este desejo não era unânime. Perante esta manifestação de apoio, atrás das câmaras outro grupo de lesados ia-se tornando cada vez mais audível. “Ladrão”, começaram a gritar, ao mesmo tempo que Jorge, de 65 anos, atirou que o estado frágil e abatido com que o banqueiro se apresentava não o convencia. “A demência não afeta as pernas, a minha mulher sofreu de demência, eu bem sei.”
Salgado foi o primeiro a ser chamado para se identificar após uma curta intervenção da juíza Helena Susano. Levantou-se e caminhou até ao púlpito da sala de julgamento e logo aí começaram a revelar-se alguns problemas. O banqueiro disse ter nascido em Cascais mas não se recorda da data de nascimento. Disse também não saber em que morada vive. Às perguntas que a juíza lhe fazia sobre, nomeadamente, se sabia onde estava e se sabia que estava num julgamento, Salgado manteve-se em silêncio.
Silêncio esse que manteve quando a juíza lhe perguntou se quereria que o julgamento avançasse sem que ele estivesse presente. Nesse momento, o advogado, Francisco Proença de Carvalho, levantou-se e respondeu que “sim” por ele. Foi então logo dispensado, ordenou a juíza, garantindo até alguma confusão por parte do advogado. “Sem incorrer?”, perguntou Proença de Carvalho no sentido de ter a certeza de que o seu arguido não seria prejudicado se abandonasse. “Pode ir a andar, não precisa de ir a correr”, retorquiu a juíza antes de a confusão se desvanecer com alguns risos tímidos.
Helena Susano, a juíza de 61 anos que lidera este processo, tem tomado este primeiro dia de julgamento com algum bom humor, recorrendo até a algumas piadas durante a fase de identificação dos arguidos. Uma aconteceu logo quando entrou na sala de julgamento e apontou a alta temperatura por o ar condicionado não estar a funcionar bem. “Não precisávamos de estar numa sauna.”
Outra dessas piadas surgiu quando foi a vez de se identificar Pedro Cohen Serra, subdiretor do núcleo financeiro do GES que foi responsável por criar o negócio da Eurofin. O nome tinha-se seguido a outros vários arguidos que indicaram à juíza que mudaram de estado civil para solteiro e mudaram também a sua morada. A Serra, que não foi um destes casos, respondeu-lhe que é “um homem fiel à sua morada”.
Ricardo Salgado esteve cerca de sete minutos na sala de julgamento antes de sair. Ao contrário da entrada, o banqueiro não se deixou mostrar a sair do tribunal, deixando o local pelas traseiras do edifício. Já o seu representante disse que tudo aquilo que se tinha passado foi uma “humilhação”. “Talvez na Rússia isso seja uma coisa apreciada, aqui não.”
Francisco Proença de Carvalho afirmou também que durante a identificação de Ricardo Salgado “todos reconfirmamos” a doença de que sofre o ex-líder do BES. “Acho que percebemos que não tem consciência, tem a doença que tem e os efeitos são os que são”. Essa humilhação, acrescentou, “ou é intencional ou é desinformação”.
Questionado ainda sobre as acusações de liderar uma associação criminosa dentro do BES, o advogado apontou que isso é “um insulto à história do banco”: “O BES ajudou muitas pequenas e médias empresas e criou muitos trabalhos. Mesmo entre os lesados, a responsabilidade de Ricardo Salgado pela queda do BES não é unânime”, argumentou antes de apontar o dedo ao Estado português: “Certamente existiram erros de gestão e erros de Ricardo Salgado, mas também muitos erros do poder público. É muito fácil culpar uma pessoa em vez de buscarmos a verdade”.
