O cérebro adulto continua a produzir alguns novos neurónios através das chamadas células estaminais neurais. À medida que envelhecemos, a capacidade de gerar esses novos neurónios diminui, o que pode ter consequências graves, como a perda de memória e o agravamento de doenças como Alzheimer e Parkinson.
